Pre 2007 achievements include several short-lived breakaways in Grand Tours and all the major one day Classics…….including the infamous episode in the 1980 edition of Liege-Bastogne-Liege when The Wattmeister rode Bastogne-Liege-Bastogne by mistake. He was trialling a prototype home-made GPS at the time copied from a design on Blue Peter.

2003 and 2005 were special for completing PBP and LEL respectively, and in 1997, The Wattmeister finished 2nd (of two) in the sprint to the Severn Bridge Toll Booth on a full touring rig on LeJOG.
