Hampered by a chest cold and crucified by toothache, The Wattmeister is struggling to rescue his Spring Classics campaign. The weather in Belgium is even worse than it is in Blighty. Cold winds were ripping across Flanders this morning, and now even colder winds are buffeting the rolling hills of the Ardennes to the East.
This is prime cycling country, peppered as it is with long steep hills, open vistas and not much traffic. Expect to enjoy a good workout on the bike if you venture to the Ardennes. One climb from La Roche en Ardennes leads to the tiny village of Nisramont which is perched atop a hill affording 360 degree views of the surrounding countryside. This week’s training rides all end with a climb!
The journey has not been without incident. The Wattmeistermobile was stopped and searched by security at Dover. The official reported that they were acting on a tip-off from a disgruntled sprinter in the Muswell Hill Peloton. Customs had been led to believe that TW was transporting a large consignment of performance enhancing substances to the continent.
In fact, the search only revealed a considerable amount of padded underwear which was being transported on behalf of the incontinent. Whoever has bugged Wattmeister Towers needs a hearing aid.
