Worldtour Team Kit….A Subjective View

The racing season is in full swing. TV and internet coverage is widespread. However, it is often difficult to identify the riders and their teams, especially when one reaches a certain stage in their lives. The old mince pies are not what they were.

Imagine The Wattmeister sitting on the very edge of his sofa, squinting at the TV screen trying to pick out the riders in a breakaway and relate the precise information to an eager and excited Wattmeisterin……

AG2R bless them went for a questionable blue/brown combination which makes them easy to pick out………………………………………………………………………………….8/10

Astana keep it simple with a distinctive cerulean costume……………………..10/10

BMC’s Red/Black ensemble with bold white logo is readily identifiable……7/10

Etixx: things start to get a bit confusing with the Black/Blue/White kit…….4/10

Francaise des Jeux: patriotic but anonymous…………………………………………3/10

IAM Cycling: smart but could be mistaken for Giant or Cannondale to the short-sighted observer………………………………………………………………………………………………4/10

Lampre-Merida: practically invisible………………………………………………………1/10

Lotto Soudal: red not as bold as BMC’s  and a bloody nuisance to have TWO Lotto teams to deal with………………………………………………………………………………………………4/10

Movistar: dead easy to pick out with the bold lime green upside down ‘W’ ( or is it an ‘M’?), coupled with the smart navy background…………………………………………………..9/10

Orica Green Edge: The Wattmeister’s squint score is at its maximum…………..2/10

Cannondale/Garmin: http://www.confused.com. Spiderman?……………………………….2/10

Giant/Alpecin: what a mess, The Wattmeister mysteriously keeps reaching for his high fibre biscuits…………………………………………………………………………………………….3/10

Katusha: rescued by the fact that Alexander Kristoff has made the colours so recognisable in 2015…………………………………………………………………………………………………….5/10

Lotto Jumbo: highly visible (at the rear of the peloton), unfortunately not figured much this year and easy to get mixed up with the Soudal contingent……………………….7/10

SKY: Easy to pick out, they are nearly always on the front……………………………..9/10

Tinkoff/Saxo: very bright melange of luminous yellow and sky blue, The Wattmeister would like to thank their designer for making his life a tad easier……………………10/10

Trek Factory Racing: a dog’s dinner mixture of SKY, Katusha. Orica and Etixx….4/10

The Wattmeister is thinking of starting a campaign:
